Teacher Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized instruction for each student based on learning style, goals, and ability level.
  • Facilitate short-term and long-term goal setting strategies for each student.
  • Support student goals by providing direction in practice strategies, fundamental technique, and musicianship.
  • Motivate each student with honest, positive reinforcement that encourages musical independence and achievement.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress as well as parent questions and concerns.

Student Responsibilites
  • Practice!  All of the natural talent in the world is worth little without hard work.  Dedicate 15-30 minutes at least five days per week to practice lessons assignments outside of band class.
  • Arrive to lessons on time.  Remember that you are reserving the time slot and not the number of minutes.
  • Arrive with each lesson assignment prepared.  Learning will not advance if re-teaching is needed due to lack of practice.
  • Bring all essential materials to each lesson:  Instrument, Reeds, Music, Folder & Notes
  • Communicate with teacher regarding questions, challenges, or concerns.

Parent Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the student arrives to lessons on time.  Remember that you are reserving the time slot and not the number of minutes.
  • Pay monthly tuition on time.
  • Encourage practice at home and remind students that consistency is the most important part of practice.
  • Provide a place for home practice that is free from distractions and interruptions.
  • Show interest in the student's learning and accomplishments.
  • Communicate with the teacher early and often.  Most concerns or problems are best solved when open and friendly discussion are encouraged.

Tuition Policies - Semester Contract
  • By agreeing to dedicate to a semester contract, studio members will receive 6 private clarinet lessons over the course of one Fall or Spring semester that is scheduled concurrently to the student's school calendar.
  • The lump sum of $150 per semester tuition ($25 per lesson X 6 lessons)  is billed as four monthly payments of $50.
  • Monthly tuition is due on the first day of each month.
  • If payment has not been received after five days, an automatic $25 late fee will be assessed to the account.
  • If payment has not been received after ten days, future lessons will be canceled until payment is received.
  • If payment has not been received after 14 days, the student will be removed from the studio and the time slot will be filled with a student from the waiting list.
  • In the case of missed lessons, students are allowed one makeup session per semester.  Any other missed lessons will not be made up and will neither be refunded nor credited to the student's account. Please see the Attendance Policies for more details.
Withdrawal from the Studio
  • Students who wish to withdraw from the studio prior to the fulfillment of a contracted semester must provide two weeks written notice of the intention to withdraw.  Emails, text messages, and phone calls are not an acceptable way to make a notification.  Written notice should be a signed letter with the intended date of withdrawal.
  • Any payments made and/or received prior to withdrawal will NOT be refunded for any reason.  By making a monthly payment, you are reserving my time for the month.  If lessons are reserved and not attended, they are forfeit.
Termination of Lessons by Teacher
  • Lessons may be terminated by the teacher when an account becomes 14 days past due.  No refunds for reserved lessons will be given.
  • In the case that a student habitually fails to notify the teacher of absences or is excessively tardy, the teacher reserves the right to terminate lessons effective immediately.  No refunds for reserved lessons will be given.
  • In the case that a student habitually fails to prepare for lessons and it becomes clear that parent money and teacher time are wasted, I will communicate with both the student and parents regarding the possibility of termination.
  • In the case that a student behaves in a disrespectful or inappropriate manner, the teacher reserves the right to terminate lessons effective immediately.  No refunds for reserved lessons will be given.
